Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are caps used to cover weak or misshapen natural teeth. They are made of porcelain or metal. The choice of a particular type of dental crown depends on the tooth which is restored using it. While the back teeth require crowns that are resistant to wear and can withstand more load, the front teeth may require crowns that look natural and attractive. We offer porcelain dental crowns at our office. CEREC is a technology that is used to fabricate porcelain crowns. Through this technology the tooth can be restored in a single visit. In cases where the crown is a fabricated in a lab, more than one visit will be required to complete the restoration procedure. A dental crown protects a weak natural tooth from external forces and decay. With proper care, dental crowns can last for more than 5 years.

Single Appointment Crowns (CEREC)

CEREC or Ceramic Reconstruction is a technology used to fabricate dental crown at office using porcelain material. 3D imaging technology is used for the fabrication of the crown. The system has a computerized 3D model and a milling unit. The scanned digital model of the natural tooth and the planned tooth crown is fed to the computer. The computer uses this input to command the milling unit and fabricate the crown. A cube of porcelain is converted into a beautiful crow which perfectly fits over the tooth of the patient. The entire procedure can be completed in a single visit therefore there are no temporaries required. The crown can be given a color to suit the natural color of teeth.

Dental fillings are restorations used to protect teeth that have cavities. The decayed or damaged part of the tooth is removed carefully, the tooth is prepared and the area is filled with the most suitable restorative material. Silver amalgam, porcelain, composite and gold metal are some of the common materials used for this purpose. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages. Depending on the need of the patient, dentist may recommend a particular type of dental filling. It is one of the first lines of defense against tooth decay. The restoration material provides physical support to natural teeth. There are tooth colored fillings which ensure that the teeth look natural.

Root Canals

Root canal therapy is a procedure performed to remove an infected pulp from the natural tooth and protect the tooth from damage and further infection. This procedure is recommended when bacteria have reached the pulp of the tooth and have spread infection, threatening to extend towards the root of the tooth. The procedure relieves patients from toothache and safeguards the infected tooth. Once the pulp is removed, suitable materials are used to fill the root canal and the cavity of the tooth. A dental crown is used to cap the tooth after the completion of root canal treatment.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridge is a dental restoration which is used to replace one or more missing teeth in a row. The bridge fills the gap created by missing tooth/teeth. The restoration can be supported by dental implant or by natural teeth. With proper care, dental bridge can last for more than 6 years. The restoration increases chewing efficiency greatly and prevents the teeth from shifting positions. A dental bridge normally has two anchoring crowns and a false tooth in between them. The anchoring crowns are fixed over natural teeth or dental implants. Porcelain is the commonly used material for fabrication of dental bridge.

Tissue Grafting

Tissue grafting is a process of rebuilding or restructuring the lost soft gum tissues in the oral cavity. The process can be broadly classified into three types namely, full thickness grafts, partial thickness grafts and pedicle grafts. Dentist recommends a particular type of tissue graft based on the type of soft tissue restoration required.

Tissues basically are picked from one portion of the oral cavity and moved to another. Gum recession, tooth sensitivity, bone loss and esthetic reasons push dentists to perform tissue grafting. Firstly a stint is prepared which enables quick healing of the area from where tissues are removed. Once the tissue grafting process is complete dentists protect the site through periodontal dressing. The site may have to be protected for one or two weeks. During the second stage, dentist may recommend a bacterial rinse to protect the graft site. Proper maintenance of oral hygiene and oral care is essential for successful completion of periodontal procedure.

There are many ways in which gum infection can be treated. Once a periodontal procedure is complete antibiotic may be recommended to protect the area from bacteria. Both surgical and non-surgical treatments are available to cure gum infection. A particular method is chosen based on the extent of the infection and feasibility. Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure is one of the widely recommended options for periodontal treatment. The process is effective, painless and gums can heal quickly.
