Sedation Dentistry

Moderate Sedation

Many patients get nervous at the very thought of visiting a dentist for even a routine consultation. The common misconception is that most dental procedures are painful, such as getting a tooth extracted from the mouth. But this isn't true. Dentists are highly trained professionals who undergo years of practice. They carefully evaluate your oral condition and take all the necessary steps to ensure you do not experience pain or discomfort during the treatment. One option is to have sedation for your dental treatment. Dr. Wood and Dr, Schapper are both certified for moderate sedation and can complete your treatment in a pain-free and sedative state.

Nitrous Oxide/ Laughing Gas

Dental treatments can make people feel uneasy. Nitrous oxide also called laughing gas, is a virtually odorless, non-irritating, colorless gas that you breathe along with oxygen. Nitrous oxide will make you feel completely relaxed but in a responsive state. Historically, it has been used as the primary means of sedation in dentistry. In order to eliminate pain local anesthesia will be administered in combination with nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide helps in removing feelings of nervousness and makes the whole process seem to pass more quickly.
